About

Having been a Soloist with The Dutch National Ballet among other top ranked companies worldwide for almost 20 years, I retired, as I felt in part, that the time was right, and my body was giving me signs and signals, telling me that it was time to find a new direction.

I had been studying nutrition, health, fitness, strength and conditioning, whilst dancing and was gaining the most up to date knowledge that I could. Upon retirement I immediately started working as the strength and conditioning trainer for the Dutch National Ballet to help the company improve their strength and fitness levels, and to reduce the risk of injury, through writing and giving exercise programs plus nutritional advice. I also worked with The National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam helping the young male dancers improve their strength levels as well as giving lectures on nutrition to the whole school.

During this time I started to explore training people outside of the ballet world and realized that I could take what I had learned in both the dance and fitness worlds and apply it. I knew instantly that I loved it and having had many injuries myself as well having to cope with extreme stress I can understand and relate to most situations that my clientele must deal with in everyday life.

My philosophy on training is simple; You must get stronger. Whether it’s wanting to be out of pain, improve technique or move better, and although it sounds cliché, client happiness is my reward; The time that is spent training in the gym, is to improve life outside and if that works, then we have achieved something great.

I named the company The Art Of Strength as they are intertwined within the realm of health and fitness and work to complement each-other and the name represents this. Simple yet elegant.”

Testimonials

I have been managing restaurants for many years so stress, poor nutrition & an interrupted sleeping pattern have been part of life since my early start in the industry. Tired of feeling exhausted I turned to Sefton for advice.
His treatment was not only professional, but accurate, friendly and non-judgmental.
He prescribed me some supplements and gave me advice to apply to my upside-down lifestyle. I started to feel better within 2 days already.
I definitely recommend Sefton not only to those of you who seek great bodies but also to those who seek to feel better, whatever your background may be.

After I returned from my holidays I felt tired and un-recovered, you should feel better when back from your
holidays right? But I wasn’t unfortunately. I heard from friends about
training with Sefton so I contacted him in Amsterdam. We began with
a very comprehensive intake.
My goal was to feel better.
I started to change my lifestyle straight away and train together with him once or twice every week.
The results were magnificent and I was instantly feeling better by eating well and training regularly.
It was not easy and I worked hard to get there. The results after half a year were amazing and I am extremely happy. I feel so much better than before and have a body that I am happy with.
I was so enthusiastic about the changes I was seeing that many people around me also started changing their lifestyle's and it worked for them as well!
I am happy that I took this step and met
Sefton, he is a fantastic help.
Thanks to him I feel younger, have more energy, and am much healthier.

Training

Consultation

  • Before we begin, we first need to see what your goals are. This can be done via an in-person meeting, video call or even just a simple phone call. After we’ve spoken, we can then make an appointment for you to come to the studio to go through some assessments and go over what you’d like to achieve in more detail.

Assessment

  • This is where we go through a detailed movement analysis, which entails structural, flexibility, strength and movement screens, as well as detailed health appraisal forms for you to fill in. With this information we get a really good picture of where to begin with your journey. We can then tailor a program to suit your needs, and begin training in a way that is best for you.

Personal Training

  • Personal training should be done in a wholistic fashion with everything covered, from tailored programming, training, nutrition, lifestyle practices, to ergonomics in the workplace and much more, and I do just this. I will go out of my way to make sure that I provide the best service possible for you. I make myself available to you 24/7 via a number of mediums and if I don’t have an answer for something, I will find a source that does. Training takes place in my private studio here in Amsterdam. For more information on training and pricing please feel free to contact me.

Online Coaching

  • When in person training isn’t a viable option I offer an online coaching experience unlike any other. This is not your standard “here’s your program in google drive and see you later!” You'll get a comprehensive assessment and consultation along with weekly check-ins, monthly video calls and of course your tailor made program, as well as constant feedback on everything related to your fitness goals. For more information please contact me via the contact form.
